His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is the 24th pontiff of Sri Suttur Math, established in the 10th century at Suttur, Mysuru District, Karnataka, India. Swamiji who assumed the position/Peetha in 1986 at an young age of 29 years, had his spiritual training under the guidance of his illustrious predecessor HH Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the founding president of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, an educational and cultural institution dedicated to provide education in the rural areas of the Karnataka state.
Effort as a Religious Head
Been responsible for establishing the “Bharathiya Samskruthika Parishath” a national organization to provide a platform for the leaders of different faiths, with a mission of service to the society.
President “Foundation for Unity of Religions and Enlightenment of Citizenship” (FUREC) an All India Level Organization initiated by late His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India along with other spiritual leaders.
Leadership in spreading the Indian spirituality and culture in the United States of America, by establishing the JSS SPIRITUAL MISSION in Maryland.
Initiated many activities such as retreat camps, birth anniversary celebrations of the founders of the Suttur Math and other spiritual leaders, organizing town fairs in rural areas.
Guidance to leaders of society and common man through constant interactions to bring harmony in society.
Has established Vedic schools and Gurukulas (Residential schools) for the students to study Hindu spiritual texts and scripts.
Chairman “Gurusangamam”, a confederation of indigenous spiritual moments led by the current torch-bearers of the indigenous spiritual movements of India.
