ISKCON of Connecticut

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was established in 1966 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda (Śrila Prabhupāda)

ISKCON has since developed into a worldwide confederation of 10,000 temple devotees and 250,000 congregational devotees.

Better known as the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON is comprised of more than 650 centres, 65 rural communities, 50 schools and 110 restaurants worldwide. It is estimated that more than nine million people worship at ISKCON Temples every year. There are about 3,600 home study/worship (Bhakti Vriksha) groups worldwide that meet weekly. ISKCON has distributed more than three billion meals of free sanctified vegetarian food (prasadam) globally since 1966. Also, 1.2 million free meals of sanctified vegetarian food (prasadam) are served daily to children in India as part of the ISKCON Food Relief Foundation’s ‘Midday Meal’ or ‘Annamrita’ program. There are more than 6,000 Krishna festivals held around the world every year in ISKCON. Bhaktivedanta Hospital in Mumbai, India, one of nine ISKCON affliated hospitals, medical clinics, eye clinics, and hospices in India, treats more than 200K patients every year.

Mission

The mission of this nonsectarian, monotheistic movement is to promote the well being of society by teaching the science of Krishna consciousness according to Bhagavad-gita and other ancient scriptures.

At ISKCON of Connecticut, we conduct daily programs to make people aware of the ancient knowledge locked in the timeless treatises such as Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. We also distribute free meals without discrimination, feeding over 100 people every week. Twice a year we distribute between 400 & 800 meals at festivals and once a year we celebrate Ratha Yatra, an outside event where we distribute more than 1,500 plates of vegetarian food (prasadam).
