The following key milestones provide important phases of the evolution of CVHTS. Connecticut Valley Hindu Temple Society (CVHTS) was founded in 1979 by a community of Hindu families who strived hard to achieve the goal by giving their time and energy.
JUNE 1979
The first Executive Committee meeting was held under the leadership of Dr. A.V. Srinivasan, one of the Founders and President of CVHTS.
MARCH 1980
Federal tax-exempt status was granted to CVHTS.
OCTOBER 1985
CVHTS purchased the land in Middletown, CT to build the temple.
NOVEMBER 1984
The Bhoomi Puja was conducted at the temple site. A major donation of $50,000 by Dr. Surendra Chawla, in memory of his loving mother, Srimati Parbati was made to CVHTS. The entrance hall in the temple is named after her.
AUGUST 1986
The ground-breaking and temple foundation was laid by Yogendra Singh of L & S Construction, Inc., Trumbull, CT.
JANUARY 1991
Dr. V. Manohar was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
AUGUST 1992
Sri Ramachandra Bhattar became the first priest in the history of CVHTS.
MAY 1999
The Pranapratishtapana was held for the temple’s main deity Sri Satyanarayana, his consorts Sri Devi and Sri Bhudevi, and Sri Ganesha. The deities sculptures were carved out of krishnashila (black stone) by a well-known sculptor Sri. Venkataramana Bhat of Bangalore, India.
AUGUST 2011
The 12th anniversary of the sanctification of the temple (12th-Year-Pranapratishtapana) was held for the temple’s main deity Sri Satyanarayana, his consorts Sri Devi and Sri Bhudevi, and Sri Ganesha.
