Tai Chi with Pamela!
she will be teaching 3 levels of
Yang Family (37-Move) Short Formof Prof. Chiang Man-Cheng.
Everyone is welcome – Tai Chi is a centuries-old art of moving meditation, and is the practice from which all martial arts are descended. Considered traditional medicine in China, it is also the most medically studied form of exercise in the West. The amazing list of health benefits extensively documented by Western medical institutions, includes reduced blood pressure, reduced stress hormone levels, improved leg strength, flexibility, and balance, improved heart, lung, and brain function, and more. These benefits occur both in the general population and especially in those with chronic medical conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s Disease, cardiac and/or pulmonary disease and hypertension.
Beginner – Intermediate -Experience Classes see below for timesBeginner Level – Intended for those who are brand-new to the practice of Tai Chi, those who may in the past have done some other form, and those at any more experienced level of practice who still have a beginner’s mind and want to focus on improving their understanding and practice of our Tai Chi fundamentals and principles. This class focuses principally on learning the basics of standing meditation, being rooted/grounded and soft, then how to move from our center (dan tien), and begin to activate the chi energy and allow it to flow. The first section of the Cheng Tai Chi form will be taught gradually.
Beginner classes will be held from 9:30-10:30am on Tuesdays. Classes are donation based pay-what-you-can. All donations go towards Reno Buddhist Center’s community outreach.Intermediate – for those who have absorbed & begun practicing our fundamentals and learned the first section of our Tai Chi form and want to continue progressing. This class focuses principally on reinforcing movement in accordance with our principles, becoming familiar with the “choreography” of the Tai Chi form, and learning to be connected to both earth’s and heaven’s chi. Beginners are welcome, but may find it challenging to truly learn without the basic grounding of the Beginner level. More advanced, long-term practitioners are also welcome and many have said they find it helpful in improving their personal practice.
10:45- 11:45a on Tuesdays12:15-1:30p on ThursdaysExperienced Level – Intended for those who have learned most or all of our Tai Chi form and wish to practice it regularly in its entirety. This class generally goes through a regular series of warm-up movements at the beginning, and then moves into practicing the form in a number of modes – from start to finish, by section, in repetitions of three, from end to beginning, in changing compass orientations, etc. Beginners and less-experienced practitioners are still welcome to attend and often enjoy observing, but they can find attempting to learn/practice at this level frustrating without sufficient grounding at the previous two levels.
Experienced classes will be heldThursdays 11:00a-noonSaturday 8:45-9:30a
