About Temple

The Hindu Temple of Florida was established in December 1983. A group of motivated individuals, who had made Tampa Bay their home, felt the need for a place of worship and practice of Sanatana dharma in their adopted land. They had already started meeting in small groups at different homes and conduct the commonly performed poojas and festivals. They came together and established the not for profit corporation and started raising funds for the land and later construction of the Temple. The land was purchased at the present site in 1989. The land came with an old house and was used as the initial Temple “Balalaya”. With further fund raising and the interest in the community, the temple construction was started in 1994 and completed in 1996 and the Maha Kumbabhishekam was performed in the same year. The Indianization of the temple started in the year 2000. The Vimana gopuram for all the deities and the main Raja gopuram were completed in 2006. The Temple canteen “Prasada Sadana” was started in 2000 and the new building was completed in 2013 on the day of Shivaratri.

The Temple completed the Prathishtapana of Panchamukhi Anjaneya and Saibaba in the month of March 2015 during Ugadi time. It was a grand three day Festival with several homas and poojas related to the consecration and kumbabhisheka of the newly constructed vimana gopuras and the installation of the new murthis.

Now the management of the temple is focusing on making the temple debt free so we can move on to the next stage of development.

Hindu Temple is a focal point for spreading the Sanatana Dharma by conducting several religious classes for adults and Shloka classes for children. In addition to that we are conducting several language classes, music, art and dance classes for the children to learn their religion and relate to their cultural roots.

With our devotees continued support and contribution we can make this temple, a place of worship, a place of knowledge and a place of peace for young and old to mingle while renewing their faith.
